My name is Dante!
I was born in Eugene, Oregon. When I was just a few weeks
old, my mother got hit by a car. Someone found me and took me to a local vet
hospital. One of the people there nursed me to good health. She took me back and
forth to work with her, and I never had to leave her side for the first few
weeks we
were together. She's my real mama, I know it!
In 2005, I adopted a kitten named Tibby to keep me company. We were best
friends!
Then, in 2007, my own weight started dropping. Mama kept taking me to the vet's
office to figure out what was wrong. I was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel
disease, and put on medication. I didn't have the energy to play with
Tibby any more, and Tibby loves to play, so I let her adopt a new kitten
named Marbles. She and Marbles really love each other. It's fun to watch,
though I miss snuggling with Tibby sometimes.
A few months ago, we got really lucky. A blood test that wouldn't normally
be run on cats was run and we discovered
that I had no pancreatic function. No wonder I was losing weight: I couldn't
digest my food! Mama started mixing pancreatic enzymes in with my food and
feeding me
with it. (I'm not always so thrilled with the process, but it's hard to argue
with result) Since then I've climbed back up to nearly my old weight (and
I'm still climbing), and I've gotten a lot of energy back! I even play with
Tibby sometimes!
One other good thing that happened: because I need regular feedings, mama
sometimes takes me with her when she goes out. I just love outings!!
